With everything that is on our proverbial plates it is understandable to feel that all out chaos is being held back by a single thread! The only respite may be your home, and there may be certain rooms that do not feel very inviting or comfortable due to the echo from the outside world. It may be time to for a change!
From personal growth through meditation to purchasing a bomb shelter, people seek change in many ways, here are a few that have helped keep sanity in our home.
First, do the small things around the house. This is a daily thing, cleaning up toys with help from the boys, doing dishes, laundry… really these little details are ways to keep the home organized. I have found that everyone in the house has a sense of calm when the underwear are in the top drawer and not mixed in with the swimsuits in the bottom drawer. This process is very cathartic, taking the time to know where things are and to be able to access the masks when you are on a mad dash to accomplish life outside of the home.
Second, exercise. What?!? How about this, find an activity that reduces the pent-up energy that resides in your pets, kids, spouse, and yourself. Get out and walk the dog(s), take a mosey with the kids to the local park or playground, walk around the house when you are on a phone call, do squats with a laundry basket full of clothes, find something that will give your mind a rest, even it is for a few minutes a day.
Third, home staging, what can I do with the things I already have to retool a room from an office to a school room? Turn a loft into a playroom / office? This can be a great way to find solace in a room that previously annoyed you, change the paint to a calming color, open up the flow of a room by moving the furniture around, get a feel for how the different layouts affect your mood. This is best achieved with a bottle (or two) of red wine and charcuterie.
Fourth, take a break. Find a way to get away, this can be a mental vacation as simple as reading a book or take the form of a hike in the mountains. Plan it and do it you may find that you come back to life a happier and better person who is ready to take on the day and not get wrapped up in all the insanity that craves attention.
The more you take care of yourself the more you are able to take care of those around you. There are 70 days left in the year 2020, how about doing what you can to end this year on the best possible wave and ride it into 2021 feeling refreshed and ready to party!
